How we got started

The Wairarapa Youth Orchestra is the brainchild of Caitlin Morris, who is a dedicated advocate for youth music education in the Wairarapa. As a string instrument teacher in the region she noticed a need for more opportunities for children at primary and secondary school level to experience and enjoy large ensemble playing.

Many local teachers and music educators have also thrown their support behind this initiative to help see it become a reality, in the hopes that it will inspire growth and development of music education in the Wairarapa Region.
